Friday Favorites

6:52 AM 6 Comments

Whew. We made it! I don't know about you, but I was even MORE excited for Friday this week (if that's even possible), so I am so glad it is finally here! Today I'm linking up with Narci, Andrea and Erika to share our Friday Favorites!

I am a sucker for Fall and Winter Fashion, and when I say sucker, I mean I pretty much buy anything that Shaeffer highlights on her blog. Whoopsie. Hey, a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do to stay warm and look cute doing it. Amiright?

So my new Fall and Winter staples are definitely my favorite.

This next favorite deserves its own spotlight…Friends, I give to you…the Baby Blardigan…I'll give you a second to let that soak in…Yes, if you told me it was at all possible to come out with an article of clothing that this chica loves more than the original blardigan, I would have told you that you've had one too many pumpkin spice lattes…But alas, IT'S TRUE!

Nordstrom has truly outdone themselves. They have created a sweater that is just as cozy, just as comfy as the original, but is even more functional because it is a bit shorter, and get this…wait for it…IT HAS POCKETS. So if you haven't invested in this yet, go, run, shop online like you've never shopped before!! This is one Winter staple that is a must for your closet! And I know that some of you might die a little inside when you see the price, but trust me, if you are going to spoil yourself at all this holiday season, let it be with the blardigan. #yourhusbandwillunderstand

See the pockets?! I die
So yes, I will admit that I am a tad obsessed with this cozy sweater of wonderfulness, but trust me, once you have this wrapped around your body, you will be too. I mean, who has ever turned down an opportunity to pretty much wear a blanket out in public and have it be socially acceptable? #notthisgirl
Mike usually falls asleep before me, I'm a night owl, what can I say. So as I was getting ready to put down my book for the night, I looked over and saw this:

I mean, is that not the cutest thing you've ever seen? Yep, that is my hubby and my puppy, cozily cuddled up in bed with each other. And yes, we let our Bubs sleep in bed with us…and I am not ashamed! He was a rescue, is super tiny, and is just the best cuddler, so it is almost impossible for me to deny that little nugget of snuggle time. I'm in trouble once we have kids…

What's Up Wednesday with Mel, Shay and Sheaffer was my first Link Up ever, and it was an absolute BLAST!! I loved being able to really connect with other bloggers out there, and chatting with some of them honestly made my day! Everyone has been so supportive and sweet, and it was really so much fun for me to chat with some super fun ladies! So Linking Up with such awesome ladies this week was my favorite, and I'm so excited to continue to do it in the future!

In the spirit of Halloween, I'm sharing my very favorite Halloween Movie ever. I mean, it's a classic. It needs no introduction.

This movie brings me back to my childhood, and I have no doubt that I will be showing it to my kids in future Octobers to come.

So with that my friends, I bid you  farewell. I hope you have a FANTASTIC Halloween with your families, stay safe and have some fun! Can't wait to see all those adorable photos next week!!

Happy Friday Friends!

Friday Favorites

7:31 PM 0 Comments

Well friends, we made it! I am very happy to see Friday make its way back around! Let's check out some of my Friday Favorites this week!

It was a beautiful week here in Benicia, and my 4th graders had an amazing few days, so we decided it was time to explore the new playground equipment! One of my students was swinging alone on the swings, so I decided to join him for a couple trips up and down. This was my view for a minute…

Swings, blue skies, and my sweet sweet 4th graders, life doesn't get better than that
I am a happy girl and just received a couple new jewelry pieces (ladies, you know how this small little thing can make one oh so happy)! Since October is Breast Cancer Month, I decided to pair my classic black and white top with some of my pink jewelry!

Blouse: Loft Jeans: Nordstrom Booties: Nordstrom Bling: Premier Designs
My husband is my favorite. Since I get out of school at 3:00 every day, I cook dinner for us every night. Mike knows how much I hate to do dishes (seriously, I would do 5 loads of laundry over doing one night's dishes), so after he's done eating, he always heads straight to the sink and tackles the dishes for us. Even after working a long, 10 hour day, he still does this small, selfless gesture that means the world to me. I am one lucky lady.

Paparazzi Shot!
One more style shot! Thursday was the first day in soooo long that it FINALLY started to feel like Fall! So I was stoked to bust out my sweater and booties this week! I am so looking forward to when it cools off a little bit more so I can live in my boots and scarves. Ladies, I know I am not alone in this! So, yes, being able to wear my fall clothes is my favorite.

Sweater: Buckle Jeans: Nordstrom Bling: Premier Designs Booties: Cathy Jean
Baking on weekends is my favorite! Check out my recipe for these tasty mini apple turnovers!

Happy Friday Friends!! What are you up to this weekend? We have dates with both sides of the family, gonna be busy! I hope ya'll have a great weekend!!!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday Friends!

I hope ya'll had a wonderful week! Let's get to some things that have been making me very happy lately!!

So I know I am not alone when I say this….I love Fall. I love everything about it. I love any excuse to bust out my booties, my scarves, and drink Pumpkin Spice Lattes. So I am stoked that October is finally here! Alas, the weather has been playing tricks on us Californians. It will be a crisp 70 one day (my perfect temp), and then for the next 4 days it will be in the 80's. I am so excited for the weather to make up its mind and say sayonara to Summer!

Speaking of the Summer weather that just won't go away, I do love me some Indian Summers. It allows us to cram so many more outdoor actives into the later months! Just 2 weeks ago we were cheering on our adorable nephew at his 10am soccer game, and people, we were in sundresses and floppy hats (ok ok, Mike wasn't, but I sure rocked it!). So cheering on my soccer stud of a nephew in my sundress is definitely one of my favorites.

2 of my favorite people; the hubs and my cutie pie niece Muri. I mean, look at her, I die.
Keeping with the Fall trend here, I love me some camo. I will be the first to admit that I didn't think I could pull it off-until I put on my first pair of camo pants. I instantly felt a little cooler walking out the door! Not only does it break up the monotony of wearing jeans, but it is a perfect transition piece from Summer to Fall. Trust me ladies, if you are on the fence about camo, DO IT. Do it and don't look back!
….And I did it because Pinterest Told Me To! She has never steered me wrong.

Can be casual with converse like I am wearing here, or dress it up a bit with some grey booties
Ok people ladies, level with me here. Do you ever have those days where you really don't feel like washing your hair, blow drying your hair, then styling your hair? Guilty. More like, I have those days everyday. But have no fear, I have found the perfect product to embrace those days you just don't want to put in all that work! Seriously, the best dry shampoo I have ever used. I can go 3 days without washing my hair (calm down you crazies, I still shower everyday) and it still looks fab.

Exhibit A….

Can't tell it's dirty hair, can ya???
Yep. This is Day 3 Dirty Hair. All I did was spritz a little of that wondrous spray, run my fingers through it, curl, and add some hairspray, and it was good as new! And my hair stayed curled allll day, even more of a bonus!

So if you ladies are in the market for a new dry shampoo, I highly suggest this one! Found at your local CVS or Walgreens. Go get it. Stat.

Batiste Dry Shampoo
So, I don't know about you. But one of my favorite things to do when it's cold and crisp outside, and I have a free Sunday afternoon, all I want to do is bake some sweet treats. Even though my husband gives me a hard time and tells me he doesn't want me to because he is watching his girlish figure…then when I walk into the kitchen the next day, half the treats are gone…yeah babe, you don't want me to bake ;)

So I have decided to try to bake a sweet treat once a week, and I'll share them on the blog so hopefully you can whip up some tasty treats for your family!!

So for this Friday Favorite, my new Kitchen Aide is officially my favorite. It was a wedding gift given to us by my super generous aunt, and let me say this…HOW DID I LIVE 26 YEARS OF MY LIFE WITHOUT IT?! Seriously. It has changed my life. So between my new Kitchen Aide and the cozy Fall weather, our waistlines are in some serious trouble.

Have a Fantastic Friday Friends!

Friday Favorite - Country Style

7:12 AM 0 Comments
Handsome hunks, hot women, eternal love and lost dogs, some of my favorite aspects of my favorite music genre: COUNTRY! Ever since my first high school crush on an authentic cowboy (fun fact #3495 about Kendra), I have been hooked on country music. There is something about it that just strikes me. Maybe it is the fact that so many of the songs and lyrics are relatable, they make me want to kick up my heels and party or the fact that country music just seems to make everything better, but country music, is my favorite.

My Top 10 Country Songs (at the moment)
1. Then by Brad Paisley
2. Bless the Broken Road by Rascal Flatts
3. Something in the Water by Carrie Underwood (LOVE)
4. Bartender by Lady Antebellum
5. Cop Car by Keith Urban
6. That's My Kind of Night by Luke Bryan
7. Look At You by Big and Rich
8. Feelin It by Scotty McCreery
9. Mine Would Be You by Blake Shelton
10. 19 You & Me by Dan and Shay

And speaking of handsome hunks, me and my girls are going to the Luke Bryan concert this Saturday and if he is half as good as he was last year, we are in for a treat! This is our last country concert of the summer, and we are so excited to go out with a bang! In honor of my Friday Favorite and our epic concert shenanigans, here are some pictures from our Luke Bryan Concert last summer.

Friday Favorite

6:31 AM 0 Comments
This Friday favorite is dedicated to the cold-weather-cuddle-up-next-to-the-fire-with-a-hot-chocolate-in-hand-and-a-book-in-your-lap kinda day which is perfect for October! Now, my entire life I have been a reader, it was always something I loved to do in my spare time. Rather than turn on the tv to watch some trash reality show (trust me, I'm definitely guilty of that too) or go shopping at the mall, I would curl up with a book. And I've read a lot of books in my lifetime, many of which I have really enjoyed, but no book has touched me quite like this one. If you haven't read The Fault In Our Stars by John Green, go out and buy it, stat. Heck, I'll even loan you my copy! Just read it. It will touch you in more ways than one.

Quick synopsis: The story is about ansixteen year old cancer patient name Hazel who is forced by her parents to join a cancer support group where she meets an-in remission support groupie named *sigh* Augustus Waters. The two form an unbreakbable bond that will teach them both more about life and love than most people learn in a lifetime.gotchs interested yet?!

I picked up this book when I was going through s pretty rough transition, but this book totally put things into perspective for me and really opened up my eyes to look at one in a new way. Now, not only could I not put this book down, but I had an emotional reaction to it that I've never had. At the time when I was reading it, I was still working in San Francisco so I was commuting on Bart everyday. So naturally, I took the book with me to read instead of people watching all the crazies (although that can be fun too). But this book touched me in such a way, I felt too emotionally connected to it to read in public. I was so invested, I felt that all the Bart passengers that surrounded me were encoraching on my private journey with this book and it was something I didn't want to share with anyone (not to mention I was a crying mess in the middle of the Bart train...but I won't mention that).

And believe it or not, it's not the 'cancer part' that got me so emotional, it was everything else that this book was made of; Hazel's relationship with Gus, her relationship with her parents (more specifically her mother) and how she didn't want to be the one to cause them pain once her battle is up, and the journey Hazel takes with herself is one that inspired me to really look at who I am as a person.

So yes, I could go on and on about this wonderful book, and I highly suggest you take the time to read it, I'm sure it will touch you in one way or another. Think of your quiet time as a gift to yourself, trust me, you won't regret it!

PS It's also an amazing movie-check that out too!!

Friday Favorites

7:44 PM 0 Comments
Happy Friday my beautiful friends! Since Friday is everyone's favorite day, I've decided to make this Friday post all about my favorites! And this Friday Favorite is a doozy. If you like ooey, gooey, and sweet, this fall dessert is perfect for you! I made it on Monday afternoon, and Mike and I liked it so much, it's already gone. Whoopsie. But that's what this time of year is for, isn't it? Cooking up cozy meals in the kitchen as we slowly watch our waistbands expand while we think about what we're most thankful for. This is what my holiday seasons consist of...right along with my yearly New Year's Resolution to get into shape...this year will be no exception!

I can't take all the credit, this was Ms. Shay Shull's wonderful post, and the Petrellese household is thanking their lucky stars for her!

Shopping List
1 can of refrigerated biscuits (I used Grands Buttermilk)
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
2 apples, thinly sliced (I only ended up using 1, but you can add more apples if that's what you fancy)
3 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons cream cheese
splash of milk
2 tablespoons powdered sugar

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees

Spray a loaf pan with Pam and set aside

Cut biscuits in half. In a small bowl, combine your sugar and cinnamon together.

Toss biscuits in sugar mixture to coat.

Arrange slices of biscuits and slices of apple in your pan alternating between each

Sprinkle any remaining sugar down over the top of your bake and place your butter on top too

Bake 25 minutes or until edges are brown. Remove from oven and let rest in pan 5 minutes before removing from loaf pan by inverting it onto a platter.

While the bread is cooling, make your icing. Combine cream cheese, milk and powdered sugar in a small bowl. Whisk in more powdered sugar if the icing is too thin and more milk if it's too thick. Drizzle icing over cooled bread.

Trust me, this dessert is worth every single calorie, seriously. If you are looking for an easy, festive, fall dessert, then look no further! Happy Baking!
