Little Man Cave

I'm going to be honest with you, I have secretly been pinning things to a private board titled "Baby P's Nursery" for a really long time. Probably since around the 1 year mark of Mike and I being married. I was so anxious to be a Mom, that I couldn't help but dream about what his or her room would look like. Mike and I decided to find out the sex of the baby (even though I didn't want to, you can read about that here), so it made my pin boards a little easier to become a reality.

Mike and I met camping (you can read about that meet cute story here), so when we found out we were having a little man, I knew I wanted to pay homage to that. Because we met in the woods, I knew that making it a woodsy theme would always remind me of where it all started, so now each time I walk in the nursery, I briefly think that the reason this precious little man is here is all because two people met under pine trees and a star filled sky. That always makes me smile.

I took bits and pieces of things I found on Pinterest and tried to make it a reality, and let me tell you, Hobby Lobby and ETSY make it real easy for a girl to pick and choose what she wants! So take a look below at Miles' Little Man Cave! Enjoy!

His nursery is my favorite room in the house. Every time when I walk in there to get him from a nap, or in the middle of the night, or when we're reading books in his rocking chair, I feel so incredibly blessed that he's my son. He's just the biggest gift I've ever been given, and being able to spend so much time in his nursery is a constant reminder of that.

Falling for Fall

Ok. It's official. I am addicted to Hobby Lobby. I could get lost in that store. It is AMAZING and a Pinterest's fan dream! It is no secret that I have an addiction to Fall, it is by far my favorite season; pumpkin spice lattes, crisp weather, cuddling up with a fuzzy blanket, pumpkin spice lattes, scarves, boots, baking, did I mention pumpkin spice lattes?! The season just warms my soul, and makes me really think twice about all the things I am thankful for. One of those things are a fiancé that lets me feed my own addiction before it is technically even Fall. When I asked him when I could start decorating our house, he told me the first day of Fall, but I was able to convince him to let me do it a week earlier than that, and I marked that day on my calendar and here we are!

Every time I walk into Hobby Lobby I get so excited, but today reached a new level-40% OFF ALL FALL DECOR!!! WHAT?!?!?! *Faints* I couldn't contain my excitement, I grabbed a cart and headed right over to the seasonal section. Even though my tingling fingers wanted to grab everything in sight (remember how I said I had an addiction), but I decided to peruse all of the aisles before I put anything in my cart.

Like I said, I LOVE Fall, so when I decorate the house, I like to decorate it more "harvesty" rather than Halloween, so that way we can enjoy the decor all the way into November for Thanksgiving, rather than having to switch out the decorations after Halloween for Thanksgiving, and then again for Christmas. Not my style, I like to make things as easy as possible.

So instead of grabbing all of the cute purple and orange "trick-or-treat" decor, I kept the colors more of a neutral pallet, grabbing mostly oranges, browns, and whites. This is the first Fall season that I've lived in the house with Mike, so I was able to get creative with what I bought. Because I'm not working at the moment, (see my Fun-Employment post here) I made sure that I gave myself a budget, or else I would go crazy. So I decided to start small, and once I got all the decor up, I could make the executive decision to go out to finish the look.

I think I have a pretty good start, our house doesn't have too much extra space to put up cutesey things, but I did my best! I didn't think it was that much until Mike got home and said he felt as if Michael's threw up in our house (clearly he was over-exaggerating)-just wait until he sees what I do for Chrismukkah (I'm Christian and celebrate Christmas, and Mike is Jewish and celebrates Hannukah, so I'm going to decorate for both holidays)!

Quake Kit

Well, based on my last 2 posts this week, it is no secret that I was seriously spooked by that dang earthquake that hit us last weekend. So you better believe I got my little butt in gear and went out and created an earthquake kit for the Petrellese Household. It was actually kind of fun, and it gave me a sense of relief that next time a quake happens, we will be more prepared than we were last time (which was not at all).

I went where all people go who want to ~~buy everything in the store~~ save some change-TARGET. And boy did they make it easy. I got my cart and loaded it up, naturally. The first thing I did was head to the Back to School section to grab a backpack that would be large enough to hold everything we need. It was perfect timing that the schools around here just went back to school, so I scored a sweet deal on the pack, given that the majority of them were picked clean. And although it would have been awesome to snag a Ninja Turtles backpack, we settled for a boring old pink one (sorry Mike). The most important thing that I knew we needed was a first aid kit and that was easy to find. I picked one up that has quite a few different things, including a plethora of bandages, gauze, antibacterial medication, aspirin, and a handy dandy ice pack. There were a lot to choose from, so I chose one that was the middle of the road, it had more than our basic necessities, but decided against the one that weighed 10 pounds that had everything under the sun.

Next, I decided to pick up a few more health essentials, such as a pack of Advil and some Tums that will help settle our stomachs. Perhaps the most important thing next to the first aid kit was the flashlight. Now, if Mike was with me, he probably would have had some good opinions on which one to choose (who knew there were so many different options!), but I decided to, once again, choose a middle of the road choice. I decided on one that was a little bit larger than the typical small travel size, and I didn't choose the gigantor one either, thinking if Heaven forbid we will ever need to use it, one that wouldn't be too heavy or a pain in the butt to carry. So I chose one that has two different functions, was LED and would be easy to operate and carry. Conveniently, there were extra batteries located right across the aisle, so I picked up a pack to have handy.

I read on the Red Cross website that it is good to have toiletries just in case, so I headed over to the travel section and scored some pretty sweet deals. I picked up his/her deodorant, a travel sized toothbrush for us both, shampoo, chapstick, hand sanitizer and some tissues. I know this is probably a little much, but I'd rather be more prepared than not.

I also stuck a pair of sweatpants in there for both Mike and I, as well as picked up some $2.50 flip flops for both of us and stuck those in there, just in case we have to grab the pack and go in a hurry. Lastly, we put some water bottles in there, even though you really should have a gallon or 2 in case of emergencies. The last item we want to include is a crank charger for our cell phones in case we lose power, so I'm still on the lookout for those. We are also working on making copies of important documents such as drivers licenses and emergency contact information, and we also stuck some extra cash in there just in case we aren't able to grab our wallets.

So even though we have absolutely no control over when the next quake will hit, we are a little more settled now knowing that we are prepared in case it happens.
